Bread Shumai (Bánh Mì Xíu Mại)

We are delighted to share Thu Trang’s specialty bread shumai recipe, also known as the savory Vietnamese meatball! 

Trang would like everyone to know they should feel free to add more or less seasoning depending on their taste  🙂

Ingredients

  • 2 lb Ground pork
  • 2 lb Shrimp
  • 2 tsp Onions
  • 1 Jicama
  • 2 tsp Garlic
  • 1 tbs Sugar
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup tomato Sauce
  • 2 tsp MSG
  • 1 tsp Corn starch
  • 1 tsp Seasoning powder
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbs Oyster sauce

Instructions

1. Wash the jicama, chop jicama into small pieces

2. Peel and chop the garlic

3. Put pork, shrimp, onions, garlic, salt, sugar, pepper, seasoning powder, MSG, corn starch, jicama together and mix the ingredients with your hands.

4. Separate the mixture into 10 shumai pieces

5. Steam the shumai for 20 minutes

6. After cooking put tomato sauce, sugar, salt, MSG , seasoning powder, oyster sauce on shumai.

7. Sauté for 20 minuets
