LION DANCE ORIGIN
Once upon a time, there was a mythical creature that came from the mountains to terrorize villagers. One day the villagers had enough and decided to fight back. They equipped themselves with pots, pans and powerful costumes. Screaming and banging the pots and pans as hard as they could, and with their costumes that displayed strength and power, they chased the bad spirits away. Thus the LION DANCE legend was born…
The traditional Lion Dance represents power, courage, and good luck. It’s meant to ward off evil spirits and chase away bad energy, and promote good luck and fortune. Lion Dancing has spread all over the world. It’s a popularized performance for various occasions including New Year’s, Weddings, and Grand openings. Lion dancing has become a staple for New Years Traditions and is a must have for any major celebration.
Our youth love performing for the community. They get to express their heritage through Lion Dance. The team spreads awareness of the richness of lion dancing while keeping the tradition alive. Connecting a rich cultural identity to the community and contributing to the American experience is what we aspire to achieve. We’ve learned that preserving culture has a tremendous impact on the next generation, and this in turn, can help transform a community for the better.
Our Lion dance team has been recognized throughout the country and has won many awards.
